Previous FBI head James the ex-FBI chief has entered an innocent plea to making false statements to congressional representatives and impeding a congressional proceeding.
His attorney filed the answer on his behalf in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia on mid-week.
His attorney stated he would attempt to have the case terminated for various factors including that his the accused, a opponent of former President Trump, was being selectively prosecuted.

James Comey seemed in optimistic frame of mind as he came into the courtroom on Wednesday, chatting with his lawyers and sharing humor. He was accompanied by his spouse, his wife and offspring his daughter, a US lawyer who the previous administration recently fired.

The former director was the FBI Director from 2013 to 2017 and was dismissed about four months into Trump's initial presidency as commander-in-chief. At the period, Mr Comey was overseeing an probe into foreign election meddling and whether there were any links between the Russian government and the presidential campaign.
During his tenure, the director sparked a backlash from Democrats when he stated just shortly prior to the 2016 presidential election that he was probing presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a personal email system. Charges against Clinton were not pursued, leading to criticism from the Republican party as well.
Prosecutors allege James Comey lied to US lawmakers during a legislative proceeding in September 2020 when he was being examined about both the previous examination as well as the election interference investigation. They say he deceived the legislative body by stating he had not permitted someone at the FBI to disclose to journalistic entities data about the government examinations.
Government lawyers also allege James Comey of "wrongfully trying to sway, block and impede" the committee by providing untrue information to it.
In a video Mr Comey published to his social media after he was indicted, he stated he was innocent and accused Trump of conducting himself like a "tyrant".
"Our household have been aware for considerable time that there are consequences to standing up to Donald Trump," he stated. "We will not live on our bended knee."
"I'm innocent," he added. "Thus initiate a legal proceeding."
These allegations against the former director surfaced after the former president shared on digital channels demanding his chief prosecutor, Ms Bondi, charge the former director and additional individuals.
